Caring for Rose Anemones the right way

BTA Rose Anemone

Share and share alike

Who can share the tank with your rose
(This tank has been turned into a seahorse tank.)
The Anemone has been moved to the 125 gallon)
Please see that section.

There are many things living in my 45 gallon tank with
my Rose anemone.
I have taken pictures over time for you to see what
can and will do fine only if the Rose does not  move around.

The rose in this tank started out as a green BTA but turned into
a beautiful red BTA over a month or so.

It shares it's home with a pair of True Perculas
lots of zoos and leathers, turbo snails, 3 lettuce nudibranches
3yellow canary gobies , a 2 spot blennie, lots of Xenia
and loads of little pods and bugs.

It also has a pretty cucumber that never moves from his
spot as he is a filter feeder, not a sand sifter.
Here is what is in the tank that shares there life with the Rose.
Hope you enjoy it.

First some tank specs:
This tank is a 45 gallon.
When it was set up 6 months ago I used new Southdown sand for the bottom
and then added some crushed coral to keep it from stirring up so
much with the Seio powerhead that I use in it.

It has a Coralife Fixture over the top that has
2-96 watt bulbs in it, one is sunlight and the other actinic.

The water for this tank was taken from the 75 gallon tank to get it started and
only had a small cycle after about a week of it being set up.
I keep this tank cool, around 75 degrees or so.
It sits in front of an east facing window and gets some morning light form the top
as the back is painted black.

It does not raise the temperature  however as the sun is only on it
for about an hour or so.

I have taken some pretty pictures of the livestock in this tank when the sun is shining
in it.
I have a hang on back skimmer that has never worked very well, and have bought
a new one to put on the tank.

I do a 5 gallon water change once a month on this tank as it
has old live rock that is filled with worms and bugs that filter the water.
The Anemone's are fed 3 times a week with silversides.
This includes the  flower anemone.
The other days when I feed mysis they catch what they can.
The lights are on from 6am till around 10pm daily.

Below is the tank with sunlight shining through the top of it from the window behind.

First he was green.....................

Then he was RED.....................

The  first picture above  was taken when I first got the BTA, it was green then.
The next pictures will be of it after it regained it's glorious red coloring.

The anemone has always kept it's foot behind this large rock in
the right back corner of the tank where he pulls
in at night to sleep, he comes around the corner during the daylight
hours to revel in  the light and to eat.

When I fist got him he was a little 5" anemone, today he opens to around
10 inches across.

Below he is eating a silverside.

Want to see him eat this fish?
Look for the page (You want me to eat that?).

Now some of what is in this tank......

Below is a Flower Anemone, it has been in the tank
since I set it up about 6 months ago.
It has never moved.
I have had him for about 6 years now.

Below is a cucumber that shares his life with the rest of the critters
in this tank.
He catches food with his tenticles and then puts them into his mouth one at a time
and sucks the food off.
Very fun to watch eating.

Below are Lettuce Nudibranches. I have three in this tank
and one has layed two coils of eggs so far.

The Nudibranch egg coil

Lots of bugs in this tank.
Live sand was purchased from a person on ebay to
add diversity to the tanks.
It was loaded with baby stars, bugs and such and has
adding a lot of interesting things to look at in the tanks.

A close up of the little Starfish that came in the sand.
They multiply by splitting and I have seen them do this
several times, but only on the back glass so was unable
to get a picture of the process.

I purchased 200  snails for a clean up crew to be dispersed
between my three tanks.
They do a great job turning the sand and keeping things all
spiffy.

I also gained these cool  worms that form a cylinder
on rocks. Don't know what they are exactly but they are
everywhere in the tanks.

Some of the other inhabitants in the Rose tank.

I hope you have enjoyed seeing this tank and what I house
in it.
