Caring for Rose Anemones the right way

BTA Rose Anemone

Deflating and why they do it

1.Deflating roses and why do they do it

Roses deflate to get rid of waste, that is to say, poo and expel water.

They will expel at least every 2 days, sometimes daily.

It is a process that is done by shrinking up so much that you think they are dying but are not.

They need to expel their  waste and replace their body and Tentacles with fresh water regularly

and here is what they look like when doing so:

(picture below is an old one, newer ones are after it)

Look closely, you can see the brown stingy junk coming out of it's mouth (below) that is the poo.

Below, new pictures

Here is a great example of an Anemone that has deflated, a before and after shot.

This Anemone is my largest in the 125 gallon and each month  she lets go up to 3 bud babies.

Here she is., enjoying the day.

And a few minutes later, having to expel waste and water.

Hard to believe it is the same Anemone isn't it!

She does this daily and is about 12 inches across  when fully open.

"As seen by the clown in the above picture, who is 2 inches long.

"The majestic one".

(I call her that just because she is so awesome)"

Below is a picture of her when deflated.

And all back to happy again, her mouth is tight and not puckered up.

2. Another Anemone

Another Anemone doing it's daily thing.

The light brown in the center of the white puffy mouth is

the poo.

3. And another

Here is one that is expelling the scales along with the rest

of the waste left over from the Silverside that it ate.

4.Mushroom poo. It's all the same stuff.

Mushroom Poop you say?

I knew you were asking just that question, wondering what mushroom poop looks like.

Well, wonder no more.

I have solved it for you.

Below is a picture I took of one of my fuzzy mushrooms pooping.

It looks identical to Anemone Poop when it comes out. I thought it was a great picture

so decided to post it .

As it all looks the same when coming out usually. (color wise that is)  and stringy.

Just after this large piece was let go in the current. My hermits had a hold of it and were having

a big dinner (yuck).

5. An older picture

Here is an old picture taken in 2005

of my newly acquired bleached BTA pooping.
It has two mouths and poops out of both.

(see section on two mouth)
